Best Foot Forward

  • Osborn Shoes, the line of fair trade footwear designed in Brooklyn by husband-and-wife duo Aaron and Carla Osborn, pretty much hits all the right notes for us.

The bright, boldly patterned oxfords, slip-ons and booties are handmade in Guatemala using local and recycled textiles and leather. Not only do they make your feet look like the life of the party, they provide meaningful work for talented craftspeople who need it.

Aaron and Carla, who met doing nonprofit work in Guatemala, are both trained as fine artists. But, as Aaron explained, "A painting is a limited product. Only we can make it. With the shoes we can put together a shop and give more people work. We want to weave a social fabric."

The artistic bent shines through in every pair of shoes, each of which is a beautifully crafted objet d'art.

If you're looking to inject some color into your summer wardrobe, Osborne Shoes have you covered. Get yours at their online shop (fairly priced at $80-130).
