Emeco (Electric Machine and Equipment Company) has been manufacturing chairs in Pennsylvania since 1944. The sustainability-minded company makes sturdy seating out of 80% recycled aluminum, with an estimated lifespan of 150 years and a lifetime guarantee.
Now, in a collaboration with Coca-Cola, Emeco goes even greener with its most iconic design, diverting plastic pop bottles from Coke’s Spartanburg, S.C. recycling plant to create the Emeco 111 Navy Chair.
At $230 (less than half the price of an aluminum one), the 111 Navy Chair comes in a variety of tasteful colors, advancing the project's stated goal of “[altering] consumer behaviour by illustrating the value of rPET (recycled polyethylene terephthalate) with beautifully designed and everyday products—ultimately encouraging more recycling.â€
