- The finishing process for a typical pair of jeans requires 11 gallons of water, and 450 million pairs of jeans are sold in the U.S. each year. We're not good at math but that seems like a lot of water. Levi's says it's new Water<less initiative will reduce water consumption in the manufacturing process by an average of 28 percent — and up to 96 percent in some jeans.
