When 9 million broken umbrellas are being sent to landfills every year, you know there's a problem. A new crowdfunded umbrella called Ginkgo presents a promising solution. Made from recycled polypropylene, Ginkgo's twenty piecemeal parts are interchangeable and can be used to assemble another umbrella should it break. Instead of metal and polyester, the entire umbrella is made from polypropylene, a light and easily recycled plastic, so when the durable umbrella finally reaches the end of its life, the entire thing can be thrown into the recycling bin.
