Takagi Masakatsu, "Girls"

  • Stunning multimedia work from Japanese artist

The word "multimedia" gets thrown around a lot when describing art that combines more than one mode of creation. It's also usually a good way to make us not care about the art being described. Takagi Masakatsu is an exception to the rule. The Kyoto-based musician/painter shoots everyday banal scenes then slows then down and smears them with digital colors and scores them with delicate, contemplative music that he composes and plays himself. The results, as you can see from this "Girls" vid, are nothing short of stunning.

For more Takagi, check out his Apple Pro Profile, and watch his gorgeous, gravity-defying guitar rendition of "Girls" on YouTube (wait for 1:45!).
