When the Deepwater Horizon spill happened over a year ago, Tippy Tippens (what a name!) was determined to help restore the Gulf Coast ecosystem to its natural state. After traveling to New Orleans, the Brooklyn designer launched BirdProject, a line of glycerin-based, bird-shaped soaps that each contain a ceramic keepsake within. In Tippens’ words:
Through the daily act of washing, you will eventually free the clean, white, ceramic birds inside – potent symbols of restoration and recovery. The soap is shaped to be cradled in your hand and is a powerful representation of all creatures affected by the [spill].
More importantly, 50 percent of all profits goes to the Gulf Restoration Network and International Bird Rescue.
