Eat LACMA: Orange Trees
A collaboration between LACMA and Fallen Fruit, Eat LACMA is a year-long investigation into food, art, culture and politics. The idea of the project is to promote a greater sense of community and culture by re-invigorating the relationship between people and food. It also seeks to highlight the idea of sustainability and bring it to the widest group of people possible. We showed up with cameras to check it out. Kicking off our Eat LACMA series, this first installation celebrates Fallen Fruit's donation of fruit trees, an attempt to spread a community-wide appreciation of access to fresh fruit. Each fruit tree recipient is asked to plant it on the periphery of their property so as to have some for themselves, and some for passers by.
