Experimental Animation Meets Pottery

Filmmaker Jim LeFevre and RAMP Ceramics combined their respective specialties to create this experimental clip promoting the UK Crafts Council. Le Fevre, an award-winning animator, used the spinning action of the potter’s wheel to animate a ceramic zoetrope, featuring a lovely handpainted depiction of a bird in flight. It didn’t take long to come up with the idea (“After a moment’s thought the combination of a potters wheel and images on a bowl was too tempting to ignore,” says Le Fevre) but it took two long days to make it all work. The film was shot by Mike Paterson.
