In conjunction with Asthma Awareness Month, Peabody Energy, the largest private-sector coal company in the world, announced its “Coal Cares” campaign. The program provides anyone living within 200 miles of a coal-fired power plant with a free inhaler and $10 towards medicine to treat asthma. The inhalers come in a variety of styles including Dora the Explorer, diamond plated, and Justin Bieber styles. In a further act of benevolence, Peabody has put PDF files of different coal related games and activities for children on the site, and literature about the benefits of coal and threats of wind and solar energy. For the record, “Coal is the safest energy there is!”
(Props to Coal is Killing Kids and the Yes Lab for this spoof, which has made national news and brought humor to a very scary topic.)
