With dozens of wind turbines integrated into the building and tendrils hanging down like tree roots, the Gesterbine Skyscraper looks like an imaginative piece of science fiction.
And, in a way, it is.
The building concept, envisioned by Polish architects mode:lina for the eVolo Magazine 2010 Skyscraper Competition, may be more fanciful than realistic; but hey, people thought geodesic domes were impossible too.
As the name implies, the Gesterbine integrates gesture, water and turbines into the building design.
Designed for a specific location in Poland, the building's water needs are supplied by pumping water from a nearby river. Wind turbines within the structure provide renewable energy both to the building and surrounding homes and businesses.
