Jennifer Collier’s Sewn Paper Sculptures

We recently stumbled on these recycled paper sculptures by Jennifer Collier via a Fast Co. Design post from a few months ago. It’s some amazing stuff. The British artist takes found bits of paper, then recycles them into 3D objects by stitching the paper using an ordinary sewing machine.

Collier adds layers of irony by constructing each sculpture from paper that refers to the object itself. Thus, pages of an old typewriter manual become a typewriter, and old photos become a camera.

“Found and recycled papers have always been my biggest source of inspirations,” she says, “So it just came to be that they also became the media, as well as the inspiration for my work.
