You know what they say about the best things coming in small packages? Madrid-based architecture studio ÁBATON has taken that concept to a whole new level.
Meet the ÁPH80, a cutting-edge micro-home that can be assembled in as little as one day and transported via tractor-trailer. The architectural team was set on creating a dwelling that can integrate into its environment in an organic way. The first step in that process is minimizing the structure’s footprint – quite literally in this case as it’s only 290 square-feet.
Founded fifteen years ago, ÁBATON’s keystone values are well-being, environmental balance, and simplicity – and it shows. We love this little home for its design, which artfully manages to pack a double bedroom, a combined living room and kitchen, and a full bathroom into the rectangular space. Smart use of full-panel windows and an A-frame ceiling give you an expansive sense of the otherwise close quarters, while minimalist furnishings and a cool, calming color scheme make it a cozy and comfortable haven.
In ÁBATON’s words:
The proportions are the result of a thorough study by our architects’ team so that the different spaces are recognizable and the feeling indoors is one of fullness. It is a simple yet sturdy construction made of materials chosen to provide both comfort and balance.
Compared to most homes, it’s also relatively affordable – the whole shebang runs for 32,000 euros, or about $43,000. Given the growing trend of tiny houses, we’re hoping to see these start popping up stateside sooner than later. The studio is also currently working on a series of components that can be added onto the main unit, just in case you’re leaning more towards ‘small’ than ‘tiny.’
And while ÁBATON boasts that most of the materials used to make the ÁPH80 can be recycled, we find it hard to believe that anyone would want to get rid of theirs anytime soon.
