Swimming Paintings by Heather Horton

Canadian artist Heather Horton has a widely varied painting portfolio that includes these beautiful portraits of faceless female swimmers, rendered in warm, soothing colors and sumptuous textures. The works feature light reflections and distortions that realistically capture the fluid, flowing feeling of swimming underwater. Each composition appears as a piece of a larger picture, with the solitary figures moving endlessly through an infinite pool.

The summery paintings are a world away from Heather’s actual home environment–she lives and works in the Yukon Territory in Canada’s far north.

“All of the mysteries of the human condition are my ultimate inspiration,” she says, “and it is through experiencing nature and the wilderness that I find the fuel to paint and create.”
