The Square: Photos by Seokmin Ko

In The Square, an ongoing project from Seokmin Ko, the Seoul-based artist explores landscape and/of the self, holding a square mirror in varied surroundings then photographing the results. Positioned just so, the mirror perfectly reflects the frame of road, field, or sea where it is centered. The only clue of the artist’s presence are the hands gripping each side of the mirror. The images-within-images have a surrealist quality, seemingly acting both as reflections of the surrounding environment and as portals to another dimension.

Ko is showing The Square series at Shinsegae Gallery in Gwangju, Korea starting September 25, 2013. The series is also available in print format, via this book published by Art Projects International.
