Viennese conceptual artist Werner Schroedl, whose work we recently spotted over at Booooooom, dreams up fantastic situations then attempts to recreate them and document what ensues.
One Schroedl performance series is concerned with the ways a person can end up falling in water. In a staged action, the artist climbs the mast of a sailboat which capsizes into a frigid lake. In another, he takes a balloon flight over the same lake while friends try to pop the balloons with guns. The simple, playful pieces harken Bas Jan Ader, who frequently “fell” in his performance works.
