Our friends at Loomstate featured this revolutionary bit of green building on their Act Natural blog. The trailblazing piece of architecture is the family home of Push Design's Anthony Brenner, whose daughter has extreme chemical sensitivities that limited what construction materials could be used.
Located in Asheville, NC, the walls of the home are filled with hempcrete, a hemp-based, carbon-negative building substance that absorbs CO2, filters particulates and creates a thermal barrier that regulates interior temperatures. The walls are covered with Purepanel, a non-toxic cardboard-like material that's both recycled and recyclable.
Best of all, the project shows that building green doesn't necessarily mean incurring extra costs — the home was successfully built for only $133 per square foot.
