In “Pulsar,” a collection of images from Japanese photographer Yuji Hamada, subject takes a back seat to light and shadow — the bare essentials of photography. Cruising through his everyday surroundings, Hamada snapped shots of ordinary outdoor spaces, using a homemade smoke machine to enhance the natural light of the sun. The eerie and ethereal images blur the line between fantasy and reality, making the commonplace seem utterly otherworldly.
