Jason Hawkes: Aerial Britain

Jason Hawkes has been taking bird’s eye images of places around the world since 1991. Today he is one of the world’s most sought after aerial photographers whose method involves a gyro-stabilized camera, shot directly from the open door of a helicopter. Hawkes has covered subjects around the world, but specializes in aerial shots of the United Kingdom.

“Britain is a stunning country to photograph – the topography is so varied,” he says. “In just a morning’s flight you can go from busy town and cities to tiny rural villages, from rugged mountain scenery to the flattest broads, and from meandering inland waterways to remote coastlines.”

The Atlantic’s In Focus blog recently featured a bunch of Hawkes’ images of London and the UK. Above is a selection of our favorites.
