Marco Casagrande: Sandworm

“Sandworm,” a new environmental work from Finnish artist/architect Marco Casagrande, combines land art and architecture in all the best ways. Constructed entirely of sand and willow branches, the massive installation winds through the dunes of Belgium’s Wenduine coastline like a friendlier version of the Tremors beast.

From ArchDaily:

Casagrande worked hard with his team of young architects and local experts for 4 weeks in order to create something that he describes as ‘weak architecture’ – a human made structure that wishes to become part of nature through flexibility and organic presence.

Visitors are encouraged to interact with the sculpture and walk through the body of the worm. The space is said to be used for picnics, relaxation and, uhhmm, “post industrial meditation.” Whatever that is.
