Google Street View Hyperlapse
As regular browsers of Vimeo know, there is a new form of time-lapse photography on the scene. Hyperlapse videos use time-lapse techniques but with moving cameras that are typically focused on one point. The results, as you can see in this video from Teehan+Lax, can make you dizzy. Here the San Francisco-based web designers used images from Google Street View to take us on a wild journey.
“Creating [hyperlapse videos] requires precision and many hours stitching together photos taken from carefully mapped locations,” say the designers. “We aimed at making the process simpler by using Google Street View as an aid, but quickly discovered that it could be used as the source material. It worked so well, we decided to design a very usable UI around our engine and release Google Street View Hyperlapse.”
So now you can use their UI to create your own Google Street View hyperlapse. Just visit the Hyperlapse website, pick any two points on the map, and the video will be created before your eyes.
