If you want to get away from it all, but you don’t want to sacrifice style or good food, then this little slice of paradise is just the spot for you. Situated in the Winelands region outside of Cape Town, South Africa, Babylonstoren is a converted 1692 farmhouse and row of whitewashed old workers’ cottages that have been transformed into a tastefully-done “resort.”
Reshaping a farm into a hotel brings abundant culinary benefits. A 8-hectare garden onsite grows every herb, veggie and fruit you can dream of. In the morning, guests can wander through the garden to pick fresh fruit for breakfast. And the restaurant, Babel, serves up beautiful dishes straight from the garden.
The interiors are pure elegance too, looking like they’ve been pulled from the pages of a glossy style mag; which isn’t surprising given that owner Karen Roos was formerly editor of South African Elle Decoration.
