SHFT + Annenberg: Carolyn Cole

Winner of a Pulitzer Prize, two Robert Capa Gold Medals, and four World Press Photo awards, Carolyn Cole has covered national and international news for The Los Angeles Times since 1994. Acclaimed recently for her memorable images from the Gulf of Mexico oil spill, Carolyn’s war photography work has taken her to the front lines of conflict in Liberia, Israel-Palestine, and Iraq. It is in Iraq where she shot a gripping overhead image of Iraqi prisoners face down in the dirt. In this short interview, she discusses that photo and its power as a symbol for mistreatment of war prisoners at the hands of the U.S. military.
